So I have no idea how this is going to turn out or what the heck will be exciting to write about.  Its your own fault if you get bored reading this.   I haven’t even been on th first flight yet and I’m already shifting the blame away from myself.  Got to set the bar low, I guess.  I’m sitting at the delta lounge right now stuffing my face with snacks and having a couple of drinks.  That is the highlight of day 1.  I have a window seat so I should probably slow down on drinks here.   A guy near me just finished his 20 minute phone conversation with a bunch of expletives at full volume.  Thanks for sharing your conversation with us.  I guess I had nothing better to do.

So I’m going through my list and I think I have made it with just one forgotten item (a lock) for hostel lockers or whatever the need may be. I think I got just about everything else.  I took a picture of some of my random (non-clothing) items that I am dragging along on the trip.

A few highlights:

  • Top left – Sleeping cocoon.  Think of a skinny sleeping bag.  Mostly meant to keep you from whatever nastiness may be on the hostel beds you are sleeping on.  Does it really make a difference?  Meh, I’d rather not know.
  • Bottom left – Towel and fire starter items.  I was a bit worried that they might be against me bringing the fire starter items onto the plane.  I checked at the counter and the front desk lady went on a 15 minute search throughout the building to get me an answer.  Kudos to you front desk lady-I forgot your name already.  She said it was good to go.  We’ll see if it shows up on the other side.
  • First aid kit – I think I can perform surgery with the contents of this kit.  Seriously, this thing is loaded.  We brought a first aid kit on our Hawaii trip and it proved to be very valuable.  I’ll never hike without one.
  • Other random stuff – Camelbak liner-duh, outlet adapters-duh, camera-duh, soaps and shampoo-You know I’m never going to shower right?, vitamins-yes I am an old man, get off my case, leatherman-kudos to Keith for lending me his, mine was not as legit, small pocket knife (for hikes), neck pillow-to keep me from sleeping/drooling on my nieghbor’s shoulders, utensils, and shades.

There were a few other things but this covers most of the not-usually in my travel pack.

Aside from that, I am currently stuck in the middle seat on the LAX to Sydney flight (15 hour flight) and I can’t change the seat because it is a Virgin Airlines flight.  That’s what I get for procrastinating on seat changes.  With that said, there are a bunch of open seats so I’m not too worried; there are about 10+ empty rows so I may be able to get a row to myself.  Booya!  I’ll try to contain my excitement.
